Five citizens from the Village of Essex Junction are appointed by the Board of Trustees to make up the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The main responsibility of the Zoning Board is to review conditional use applications to determine if they conform to certain elements of the Village Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. The Board is also responsible for considering, on an individual basis, whether variances to the zoning regulations should be allowed. The Board also hears appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decisions.
In accordance with the Village of Essex Junction Charter: The Trustees shall appoint a Board of Adjustment to three year terms from among the qualified voters of the Village and shall provide standards and procedures for such board to hear and determine appeals from administrative decisions, petitions for conditional uses and variances as may be required by law.
